Good morning.
Stay salty at all times and stop
complaining.
If you wow’nt practice small waves,
white water, small green waves,
winter, spring, summer and fall,
you will stay in the same place.
When you practice at the gym or
any type of fitness, your first few
weeks of training will be basic
simple movments. But surfing
has a lot of complex skills from
the very begining.
When you start fitness you start
with 10-15 reps for big muscles
5-12 reps small muscles.
But in surfing, it is different.
WHY?
While poping up on the board,
you need you balance (core
muscles),big and small muscles,
because most of surfing physical
skills you do at once in a dynamic
invironment, while at the gym you
can target a few muscles,
depending on what type of
workouts and equipment you use.
Usualy when you learn new
exersises or any physical skill,
you have to teach your body to
work slow, in order to implement
coordination the right way, so
when you progress, you can start
with more comlecated skills.
If you will start with more reps,
no rest, and full power, you will
risk injuries.
So, how many reps do you need to
do in the water?
That's a bit complicated to answer
because it depends on so many
varibles. For example, if I do 7
push ups at the gym, the amount
of pop ups on the board will
depend on your strength, power
and balance.
If you want to do more pop ups, it
depends on resting interval in
between the pop ups.
More then that, when you take off
the wave (either white or green, it
does not matter), you generate
speed which helps you to take off
the board.
If you do less, it can be because
your upper body is a bit weaker,
either not engaging enough core
due to weakl inner abdominal
muscles, or not understanding
how to engage them.
As I said, there are more changing
varibles on our pop up, but if you
want to progress you need to
practice at least 2 times a week for
an hour if you are a begginer.
So take a board and say hi to the sea.
Yours,
Coconat 🌊
