Level 2 is when we surf small green waves (unbroken waves) 2-3 ft high.
The importance of this level is not how many waves I can catch (yet), it is the understanding
of how and what to do at the Lineup – the line were we catch unbroken waves.
You might say to yourself 'why do I need to know what to do in the lineup, isn't the point of
surfing is to take as much green waves as I can'. Yes, that's true! The more waves you take,
the more you practice and progress. Nevertheless, in order to catch more waves, we need to
learn how to read the waves and what to do in the Lineup.
From here on out, you will learn so much only from the surroundings, it will boost your
Confidence in so many ways like, where to sit and when to start paddling, how does the
wave form, and where do I sit?
Safety first
But the most important as a surfer, will be YOUR SAFETY.
Here are the 3 most important rules, out of many more, but if you keep those rules and
Make them part of your routine; you will be ready and sharp in the future.
1. Never ditch your board! It is a danger for others and for you.
And in the future if you choose the longboard style then you will need to know how
to turtle roll ( check out our tutorial on youtube – how to do a turtle roll).
2. Paddle out from the side, never from the impact zone!
If you took a wave (yess! I am stocked with you!) Paddle out wide!
Never paddle out in front the line up, because you'r in other surfers way.
3.Surf with in your abilities.
Don't go in if it is too high for you.
if it is too strong, surf on the inside maybe and look out for the big sets.
You can get hurt and you want to live forever so you can surf forever.
Eyes everywhere!
We learn 70% mostly with our eyes! If so, your eyes should be everywhere.
Learn to use them. It is like a movie, but a salty one. Look at the waves, how do they
form and break.
Look at other surfers, how do they take off, which waves do they take, how and when they
paddle out. Try to understand what you see, ask yourself questions, seek for answers!
Weather
Learn how to read the forecasts. Every area in the world uses the app called Magic sea weed.
But I think it is not enough, relay on more forecasts as weather reports.
Why do I do that? Because when you look at more forecasts you compare and see the
Probability of the forecast will occur. Nevertheless, remember that weather is unpredictable,
for the better – a sunny glassy (no wind) kind of say. Alternatively, higher and choppy waves
(wind will effect on the water and make it less stable than the usual).
Aloha till the next post,
yours coconat.
